Piece 2

They were incarcerated in darkness, 700 metres underground.  Time was running out yet hope remained despite the fragility of their situation; the ever decreasing level of oxygen and stifling heat.  Collectively the 33 men tried to keep one another’s spirits up with jokes and talk of when they were rescued and how they would celebrate with their loved ones.  Grief-stricken families waited for news close to the entrance of the mine.  At last their cries were heard, via a note taped to a drill bit pulled to the surface. It read ‘we are well’! The mission continued until all were freed after 69 days!
